What I saw Wednesdays (v.VI)

Happy Fashion Revolution Week friends! As Red Pony fans, I know that you already think outside the supply-chain of fashion, and that makes you AWESOME. Thanks for supporting Red Pony and making a difference in how fashion is consumed!

So, remember this beauty from the backroom last week? I was so excited to see that it survived the dress-sale we had on the weekend and it was ready to come into my loving arms. Alas, I'm not a size xs. Boo. But it will be great for someone else!

This lovely dress is such a grown-up dress. The satin material is so chic and it has a key-hole back. It's a dress made for a yacht or a polo match!

Not only is this a beautiful belt from Bauxo, but this Canadian company does a great job of acknowledging the origins of their products and using ecologically conscious materials and methods of production. I love their stuff, and it's a treat to have this belt in the store!

Now, at first glass this is just a cute blouse....

....but it buttons down the back!

Even the care instructions are sweet:

We are carrying a new jewelry line, Darling Gems For You from Salt Spring Island! Each piece is handmade, which I just love, from locally sourced stones, which I also love! (We carry Darling Gems For You earrings too!). I couldn't decide which of these necklaces was my favorite, they are each so wonderful!

And it has BIRDS on it!

This incredible OK47 skirt seems to be saying "Birds? I'll show you a bird!"

So last week there was that box of hats in the backroom. Here they are! The hat in the centre is 100% straw, and the hat on the right is 100%.....paper! But it feels like a regular hat!

This cute top is perforated like an '80s racer/break-dancing shirt!

OK, we've got you set for summer with these JCrew shorts (all of them are NWT! How happy are we that they weren't just tossed into a landfill before realizing their fashion destiny?!)

This funky skirt says "Geek Boutique" on it, which is cool in and of itself. But, full disclosure: I cant get a bead on the brand or origins....there's a surprisingly large amount of uses for the term "Geek Boutique" out there!

What I saw Wednesdays (v.V): Purses and the Back Room

So this week was one of those times where there was so much great stuff in the shop that I didn't even know where to begin! So many great purses right now, it's awesome. That slate-grey Topshop purse has little metal feet on the bottom (a design feature that I just LOVE), and a beautiful blue lining.

There is a great showing of Canadanian content this week too! This Eve Gravel dress is designed and made in Canada (whoot!). It's a heavy, stretchy cotton and such a classic look that will wear well for years.

You could pair it with either one of these grannie shoes:

There are tons of these lacy skater dresses in the shop right. This one is Canadian!

When I walked in, this top was the first I saw and it totally drew me in:

Sadly this dress does not have a readable tag, but it's made of a nice brushed cotton and has a hand-made/indie feel to me.

So this Liebeskind Berlin purse has so much going on it could have a blog of its own! With three zipper compartments, ergonomic-symmetrical strap and boxy shape it's kinda like a leather version of a Matt+Nat (but we love you just the way you are, Matt+Nat!)

Somewhat awkwardly, I was wearing a dress that looked just like this Ralph Lauren dress while taking pictures....

I just can't even with these leopard-print Zara sneakers. So. Cool.

Last week I went nuts for this great Donney&Bourke purse (and several times I checked back to see if it was still here....it is! But it's not quite the right shape to fit my clunky wallet. Boo) and this week it got a sister.....this adorablebeige Coach purse!

So, I'm getting ready to leave and head out through the back room. What's in the back room, you wonder? Clothes, freshly steamed and neatly organized, that are waiting their turn to be brought out front. As I walked by I couldn't help myself..... a bunch of stuff caught my eye! I snapped a couple pictures, but I didn't want to mess up Colleen's system, so I don't know their stories or prices....we'll all have to wait until next week. Weeeeeeeeeee!

What I saw Wednesdays (v.IV): Backwards Stars

This bowling-bag is Coach, and it so refreshing to see a Coach bag that is a bit different from its siblings! And guess what? That deLux hat, called the "Madeline" hat, is adjustable! Perfect for people like me who have surprisingly tiny heads.

This Dooney and Bourke purse has had a lot of airplay these past few days, but it is just adorable; how could I not include a picture of it?

The Sustainable Fashion Award (that I made up a few weeks ago) this week goes to Maison Scotch. They have an entire sustainability manifesto on their site where they get right down to the specifics such as the treatment of the sheep from which they get their wool. And I just LOVE wool origin stories!

Lululemon also has hefty sustainability policies in place. It's a little more corporate -and has no mention of sheep- but they certainly get points for having a thorough stance on sustainability. We have TWO Lululemon raincoats in the store right now! The smaller one (left) has a lovely watercolor motif on it; the photo does not do it justice. I found the larger coat (right) was really roomy for an 8. It has a cozy, fuzzy lining in it.

I came across lots of silk this week! This Cynthia Rowley is 100% silk (ahhhhhhh):

Can-con from Oak + Fort. The collar, upper-chest and body of this little black dress are made of different materials, which gives it a lot more dimension and interest while not being fussy.

Look what I found in the shoe section! How cool are these Dr Marten saddle shoes?!?! The little green hearts on the Vans are super cute and totally unexpected.

What I Saw Wednesdays: Spring Around the Corner

Wow, the shoe rack is banging at the shop right now! Including beauties like those Miz Mooz (Size 10!). So excited for spring now!

We always stock deLux Hats in the store, and these spring hats have a great palette! (For some reason I've always loved the unexpected pairing of pink and orange).

This lovely, flowey Edme & Esyltte skirt:

These lockets are so unassumingly cool. The Juicy one (right) is contemporary, and the other one is vintage. I was so nervous opening it since it's an antique......but also because I didn't know what I would find inside!

But what a treat when I did open it!

These Nine West loafers were actually the first thing to catch my eye when I came in, they remind me of something Tavi Gevinson would just love.
